“Running Through the Dark” By Soft Powder

An anxiety ridden journey through a neon cityscape.

As two Asian creatives both Soft Powder and I wanted to make something inspired by the East Asian & Hong Kong cinema that we grew up with. We wanted to capture the visual style and energy of a director like Wong Kar Wai but set it in our city, Melbourne Australia. The challenge was seeking out pockets of the city that echoed the look of those films and made the project look and feel more universal.

The song was about anxiety and searching for relief. Melbourne became the most locked-down city in the world and those feelings of anxiety and tension crept into what we were making.
