We live in a very special time, a future that was once distant is slowly merging into our current lives. Cloning, Elon Musk, black holes, exploring Mars, artificial intelligence, pandemics, time travel and cyborgs. These subjects are the core of this abstract experimental flash forward.

Beyond the Short

As this started out as a non commissioned project, our prior goal was to put all sorts of experimental shots on the shotlist that we’ve always wanted to try out. Green screening, projection, shifting colors, cloning and creating floating objects were a couple of the experiments we wanted to explore. All pretty much involving digital post production in combination with 16-mm film.

I.SIMONS, the brand that we got on board was very involved in innovative fabrics and inventive new designs. My personal interests the last couple of years directed the film to futuristic topics like: black holes, artificial intelligence, Mars exploration, robots and cyborgs. So that’s how the futuristic story got together.

The cloning scene is actually one model that we repeated in front of a large green screen. We created this scene to touch on the subject of cloning human beings in the near future.

In order to mimic a different planet for our Mars exploration scene, we colored a small river stream in Amsterdam completely green. With an organic dye called Fluorescein we were able to key out all of the surroundings the model was standing in post and shift the hue to a reddish color.

The final scene we created a digital mask which we projected onto the face of our model to illustrate a cyborg kind of feel.
