“First impression: NYC” By Thomas Dalais

A guerrilla style short travel film of a trip to New York City. I spent 2 days walking the city alone, filming and talking to strangers on camera trying to get a well rounded impression of NYC, it's people, culture and pace.

This is the first installment of travel/documentary films I call "First impressions".

Beyond the Short

As a first time visitor to the city of New York I was told that everyone has their own impression of the city… With only 2 days to explore NYC I captured whatever caught my eye and interviewed whoever would speak to me. The intention was to illustrate my unfiltered first impression of New York's culture. The pace, rhythm and raw personalities of the city are what inspired the fast, raw and messy editing style. I wanted to avoid as many cliched "travel film" editing techniques as possible in the never ending pursuit of creating one's own editing style.

I'm pleased to showcase the first installment of a travel film series I call "First Impressions"

Cameras used: Sony A7iii, Bolex 16mm reflex and Iphone 7
