“Flow of Life” by Double Being
A spontaneous transmission in the form of a cinematic poem. This multilayered meditation serves to help heal one of the core wounds of our planet, the suppression and misunderstanding of women and their blood.
For one lunar year, the artist, activist & naturalist Marisa Papen created a series of menstrual paintings. Her vagina and gravity as her paintbrush in this personal yet universal exploration. As she allowed the collective trauma to flow through her, the moon paintings inspired visions of the present, past and future.
Intimately filmed at their home on the Big Island of Hawaii by the artistic duo — Double Being, this moving portrait documents the creation and atmosphere of the 12th painting, ‘Holy Trinity’. This award winning film developed organically as a natural unfolding of feeling, form, ritual and poetics. A contemplative voyage into the cyclical nature of pain, release, joy and surrender.
FROM THE DIRECTOR
“FLOW OF LIFE is a primal & poetic dance through the emotional landscape of a menstruating woman.
Intimately filmed at their home on the Big Island of Hawaii by the artist duo — Double Being, this moving portrait documents the creation and atmosphere of the 12th painting, ‘Holy Trinity’. This award winning film developed organically as a natural unfolding of feeling, form, ritual and poetics. A contemplative voyage into the cyclical nature of pain, release, joy and surrender.
Flow of Life is an homage to women who have lived and live their lives in shame and guilt for their bodies and blood. It is a call to open and to witness yourself free from those stories and to experience authentically your own existence.”
