“JEDEN SOMMER IM JULI / EVERY SUMMER IN JULY” By Andreas Scheffer

What it feels like to be behind the scenes of the Tour de France. A diary-like stream of consciousness in Super8.

Synopsis

As a child I watched the Tour de France on TV and wondered how the Tour, the landscapes and the people would be like in reality. In his twenties he got the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes when he worked for the German Television in the camera department. He followed the Tour eight times and because he felt these insights were precious he started to film his impressions with a Super8-camera.

‚Every Summer, in July‘ documents how personal and professional life start to merge when you work on such a big event. As in one year both personal and professional were very interesting a couple of years later Andreas Scheffer started to edit a film out of the sometimes random footage. And he eventually went back to the Tour - for the first time as tourist.

Although you see a lot of bikes in its essence the film is not about cycling, it rather asks the question what the impressive surface is supposed to mean, what values matter and why people are doing what they do.
