“Trashday” by Petrus Koskinen

“Trashday” is a short documentary of Eino, a father of three, who  started picking up trash to ease his concerns about the environment. The documentary explores Eino as an individual, his trash-collection efforts, and maintaining hope in the world we live in.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

“I wanted to do something meaningful and forward-looking with my skills. I also wanted to challenge myself to make a film that has something to say, and tells a story in a clear way - not hidden behind aesthetics. I noticed Eino's - the main character’s - trash collecting on social media, and something about it resonated in me. Perhaps the simplicity of collecting trash in these complicated times? And of course, the positive approach in doing so. I thought this could be a story worth telling forward. I got in touch with Eino and he was very excited about the idea of me making a film of him. He had been following my work over the years so it wasn’t really difficult to convince him. Our thoughts and way of living matched super well, and working on the project became very nice and meaningful for me. This was my first documentary (and definitely not last) and it was a beautiful journey to learn a bit of the craft with Eino. I hope you enjoy the film!”
