“Polvo de Reptil” by Yalfrelys Farreras
Santa has a quiet life far away from the city, where she takes care of her animals and herself. She used to be a “curandera” and a “huaquera”. Once in a while she develops an obsession with a new creature. So she makes her own ritual, remembering her past life and mixing ancestral magic knowledge from the Sican culture to turn them to reality.
FROM THE DIRECTOR
“The creative process that inspired the "Polvo de Reptil" music video started with a trip to Ferreñafe, Lambayeque, at the north of Perú. In this trip the director was part of a crew that was making a documentary about the Pomac forest.
During this process she learned some traditions of Sican culture and filmed an excavation of one of their pyramids inside the Pomac forest. She also heard the story of Santos Vera, also known as the pyramids witch. He was a powerful "curandero" credited with supernatural powers that could deal with the dark forces of other shamans.
All these experiences and stories gave birth to the main character: Santa. That emerges as a free reinterpretation of Santos Vera and rituals from Sican culture.
The production process was a challenge. This music video was filmed in two days reuniting a small crew of 5 people. The director: Yal Farreras and the producer: Roy Muroya traveled from Lima. The rest of the crew, including the actress: Mary Jimenez, were locals. Having Pedro Benitez as local producer was essential to the process because he helped us to find the locations that you can see at the music video and also coordinated all the transportation and food for the crew in a record time.
Also, having Roy Muroya as producer partner in this project was a great relief because having to split myself and being director, dp and art director i needed someone who i can rely on not only on the work but also on emotional support and he was perfect because we have done a lot of music videos together and we have a great friendship.
Working with Mary Jimenez was such a joyful experience. She brought to the character the realness and the genuineness that makes you love it.
I want to give special thanks to the whole crew that made this music video. And to Arba Spak & Ruiz Gonzalez who trusted me for giving an image to their song.”
