Says Pat
“Pat & Mac was something I started during the pandemic. I had recently broken up with a long term band and was experimenting with learning music production. Suddenly I had a ton of free time to really explore what I could do on my own as a musician. I had previously played in funk and progressive rock bands, but working on my own allows me the freedom to call on all sorts of other influences. The idea of Pat & Mac came from the idea that Mac is now my bandmate, and I imagined us as these goofy comic book characters that used rock music to save the world. Sean has really helped bring that vision to life in giving Mac a personality in the videos we've worked on. "Flesheater" came from binging a bunch of Italian horror movies - specifically "Demons" from Lamberto Bava and Dario Argento - with soundtracks that maybe didn't always fit the traditional mood but were so unique and fun. It's a joy working with Sean because I can give him the skeleton of an idea and he can just go with it. I'm really proud with how he brought it to life!”
Says Sean:
“Shooting “Flesheater” was both challenging and cathartic. Creating gory blood soaked scenes in stop motion is a contradiction of sorts. The controlled slow nature of the medium while filming, and the chaotic fluid look of the finished product are somewhat at odds. This is where the constant flux between challenge and catharsis exists. Many of the materials used were completely new to me. I decided to branch out in this way to create a video that is satisfying as a narrative but also textured and tactile. I'm so thrilled to continue to breathe life into Pat & Mac within their stop-motion cinematic universe. It was a blast trying to reference some classic B-movie horror tropes, to create what is undoubtedly a zombie horror film, but which captures our collaborative vibe of fun and whimsy!”
