“Relapse” By Faangs
Synopsis
Relapse is a dark paradise. Inspired by grind house films, this video tells the visually mesmerizing tale of a superstar misbehaving again - acting up in a psychotic, insane, but fashionable, and fabulous wild ride.
Directors statement
It is always refreshing to work with an artist with a clear vision of what they want - this was the case working with Faangs. The concept of it just clicked, from the first time I heard the song to the first time reading the brief: It had to be a dark tale. However, we didn't want to go the literal route of relapsing, overdosing, drugs, etc. But instead, using another definition of the word: To start to behave badly again.
This is exactly what Faangs is doing throughout the video, and she's done it before in this motel—having a dreamy relapse and giving life to a lifeless body to not go through with it alone.
It was fascinating experimenting with high fashion elements in this darker way and collaborating with Mike (DP), pulling references and developing the look that allowed us to mix these elements of fashion with aspects of the grotesque in a very "pop" way.
The shoot day was crazy. We wanted to fit as many looks as we could since wardrobe was a big part of the video, and we were lucky we were working with a super talented glam team that was able to work on record times. We decided to use two cameras to move faster through our day, the second being a small bolex we could rig to places like the car and the showerhead. In the end, we made it because the crew was just amazing.
I'm incredibly grateful to be surrounded by people with a passion for creating amazing things. And to be able to work with producer Andrea Sastoque (who can pull miracles and make stuff happen) and Delwyn and Carla Mooney at Cardel, whose support was key in getting this video made the way we wanted to.
