“Choke” by Jason Abrams

A thief is faced with a difficult decision when a home invasion takes an unexpected turn.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

After five years of working on and finally releasing a feature (@hungrydogblues), I craved to create but without having to raise thousands/millions of dollars. Irina (wonderful, amazing Irina) challenged me to make a film with a budget of $0 using all the skills I've learned in my career. First was the writing challenge. I made a few rules of my own: little to no dialogue, could be shot primarily in one location, and more than anything told a story that was cinematic and thematically challenging. And if that wasn't hard enough I decided to do every production job myself: DP, director, editor, sound designer, and even composer (a first for me). It was difficult but I loved the total creative freedom and flexibility that being a one-person crew provided. I hope to continue to make shorts like this, exploring the same theme and potentially others in the future, as I prepare to get the next feature off the ground. Who knows. Just felt good to be in the saddle again.

Thanks to my wonderful actors for being down to make something weird and crazy and thanks to @sagaftra for approving the project. Just cause we’re fighting the big guys doesn’t mean we can’t still play with our friends. “
