Beyond the Short Official Premiere

When his estranged father is released from prison after a four-year sentence, 15 year old Jack will have to deal with his feelings of resentment and adapt to the changes his father's return will bring.

As Jack struggles to share his mother’s and little sister's affection with his father, he confronts him, putting the relationship with his family at stake. Now he has a decision to make.

"Ever since I was young, the prison system has captivated my curiosity and imagination. The unknown and complex nature of this reality, and how it affects people's lives, led me to explore it further through documentaries during my early teens.

In the summer of 2019, I met a friend who shared my interest in the prison system and recommended a number of documentaries that reignited my passion for the topic.

At the same time, the effectiveness of the prison system in the UK was being widely questioned. Years of underfunding had led to overcrowding, violence, and inhumane conditions in UK jails. The theme of prison, rehabilitation, and punishment is still a matter of ongoing debate and the conversation around the long-term effects of incarceration on inmates' lives after release is becoming increasingly urgent. This was the reason why I felt compelled to explore this theme and make a film about it."
