“Excess” By Kevin Flores

Synopsis

“Adapt or perish, now as ever, is nature’s inexorable imperative” H.G. Wells.

What happens when one struggles to adapt and instead starts losing track of reality? How to keep one’s head above the water when perceptions and self-reflection feel unfamiliar and misleading? Excess explores those themes through the story of a man navigating the deep waters of 2020 in Melbourne.

Directors statement

2020 has been for all of us a very tough year. We’ve been exposed to a constant level of stress, fears, unanswered questions and uncertainty.

Facing our own fragility and vulnerability, we’ve had to question our humanity and its purpose.

Beyond the tragedy of the pandemic, I wanted to shine a light on the vast devastating effects of an excessive exposure to the media, extreme loneliness and loss of incomes, ultimately leading individuals to dramatic mental health issues.

Those are the collateral damages, the non-officially related statistics, all intrinsically linked to the modern society we live in and exacerbated by the global crisis.
