“Hold the Lighthouse” by Thomas Soto
A septuagenarian and his 8-year-old grandson are isolated in a small village in Gaspesie.
As the grandfather's Alzheimer progresses, his attachment to his love, his wife, is a memory that lasts, staying in his mind while the rest crumbles. The grandson tries his best to be a support, a safe place, for his grandfather as the film of his memory slowly burns.
FROM THE DIRECTOR
“The film is constructed to take place entirely within the structure of the memory of a patient with Alzheimer's in order to better understand the progression of his disease. The idea is to immerse ourselves in memories that lack beginnings and endings. A mosaic of moments where we see the situation of the grandfather deteriorating through the eyes of his grandson.”
