“Trigger Pen” by Wudd

The hand that signs the laws is the same hand that pulls the trigger on the gun.

A disarmament campaign that shows the dangers of firearms in Brazilian daily life, where the responsible for arming the population is the governmental power that authorizes the laws.

FROM THE DIRECTORS

“Trigger Pen is a promotional video for the "Sou da Paz" NGO in Brazil, which focuses mostly on disarmament.

Numerous regulations passed during the previous Brazilian presidential term made it easier to obtain guns, placing a significant part of the population at risk. This is the exact plot of the movie. The government is just as responsible for this as the people pulling the trigger.

And with that in mind, we chose to tell this story in reverse, the film begins with a suburb child about to be hit by a bullet, and the bullet returns showing scenes and situations that will have their violence aggravated by the presence of guns.

And these incidents—which include potentially violent traffic, school shooters, a portrayal of the widespread femicide that occurs in Brazil, as well as a trans character—are intimately related to Brazilian reality (unfortunately Brazil is one of the leaders in the ranking of violence against transgender people)

The final scene of the movie reveals that the hand that signed those laws granting access to firearms actually fired this shot.

For our approach, we reasoned that as the bullet leaves the gun, all reality is stopped and daily life is put on wait. As a result, we create a state of limbo that permeates the entire movie. This kind of approach helped us to focus the viewer's attention even more on each character and situation, avoiding distractions and emphasizing the threat that weaponry can bring in our ethereal environment where death is very close to each character and situation.”
