“mr. i don't care” by Taylor Graham & Justin Leyba

Beyond the Short Official Premiere

This film delves into the psyche of the "fuck boy" archetype, depicting the struggle with emotional intimacy and vulnerability. Dancers alternate between moving in a protective pack and solitary exploration, reflecting the dichotomy of their inner journey.

This work explores through psycho-somatic themes of the lower-self, the mask, and the higher-self. The lower self is represented by the archetype of the "fuck boy" - a persona characterized by avoidance of emotional intimacy and vulnerability. The concept of the mask is central to the narrative, symbolizing the façade that individuals often wear to conceal their true emotions and vulnerabilities. As the dancers move between the pack mentality and solitary exploration, they metaphorically don and discard these masks, revealing glimpses of their inner struggles and desires. Contrasting with the lower self is the theme of the higher self, representing authenticity, vulnerability, and genuine connection. Through moments of introspection, self-discovery, and camp-like humor, the dancers strive to embrace their higher selves.
