“Daughter Sun” by Skyler Knutzen

Beyond the Short Official Premiere

Elizabeth's paintings and sculpture work is inspired by the patterns formed in nature. These repeated patterns are in everything, from leaves to humans. She was first introduced to these patterns by her father, a Nobel Prize winning chemist. The two share a connection even after his death.

FROM THE ARTIST

“Once I made the connection between Elizabeth's work and her father's work I became interested in using micro-archival footage of organisms replicating, evolving, and transforming. I found the collaboration between old and new footage as a way to explore similar ideas that Elizabeth explores in her work. Her work is often looking at these patterns evolved over time and how they're connected to life and death. Her relationship with her father demonstrates her curiosity around mortality and how our work may transcend our human bodies.”
