“KALVIN.” by Keaton Greene

Beyond the Short Official Premiere

‘KALVIN.’ is a short, intimate portrait of budding musician Kalvin Beal (‘Pardyalone’) exploring the importance of / his personal struggles with mental health, a topic that isn’t typically discussed in the BIPOC community.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

'“Given the sensitive nature of the storyline, I decided to shoot the project on film (a combination of 35mm and 16mm) as I thought it would be the best way to enhance the visual authenticity of the piece.

Shooting on film comes with a number of constraints and made various shots more challenging to capture, particularly the skating sequences on 35mm. Thankfully, DP Cleon Arrey has a skating background, allowing him to handle the 30lb, awkward Arriflex 35-3 while riding. Additionally, it was imperative that Pardyalone and his team had trust in us as a crew given they weren’t able to see any playback of what we shot during our single shoot day.”
