“Paper Boats” by Jessica Pons

Beyond the Short Official Digital Premiere

In "Paper Boats," Director Jessica Pons, grapples with the loss of her father, who possessed a unique talent for crafting paper boats out of anything. Seeking solace, she embarks on a journey to various bodies of water, where she crafts paper boats, each one a tribute to her father's creativity and love.

As Jessica releases these makeshift boats into the water, she discovers a profound truth: just as her father transformed ordinary objects into vessels of beauty, his passing is a form of transformation too, much like how a simple piece of paper can become a symbol of hope and adventure. Through this realization, Jessica finds comfort in the idea that her father's spirit lives on, forever intertwined with the ebb and flow of the waves.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

“In "Paper Boats," I grapple with the loss of my father, who had a talent for turning anything into a paper boat. To honor his memory, I embarked on a journey to various bodies of water, crafting paper boats and setting them adrift. Initially, making this film was a cathartic response to my grief. However, as I watched each boat sail away, I experienced a profound realization: just as my father could transform the mundane into beauty, his passing represents a transformative journey, much like a simple piece of paper becoming a symbol of hope and adventure.”
