Casio by J!mmy is a sweet and sour love odyssey through a dreamscape in the artist's mind. The journey evolves around the feeling of being in love and dreaming away entire days while holding onto any hope of mutual affection. Dreamy transitions lead from scene to scene, disorienting while guiding lyrically through a loss of time and space.
Directors Statement
The song revolves around the feeling of being in love, dreaming away entire days while holding onto any hope of mutual affection. I wanted to demonstrate how universal this feeling is so I got inspired by a few classics - pictures of romance we all have been fed as children like Disney‘s famous Lady and the Tramp. It's all a bit of a parody of lovesick logic and human nature. J!mmy's natural goofiness and humor was essential to this approach.
I really appreciated the trust and creative freedom in this collaboration. It was important to me to portray male sensitivity in a way that would make the artist feel comfortable and that would be authentic to his persona. At first glance, J!mmy’s image is framed around the hip musician, millennial Casanova with the voice of a triton that smokes too much and yet he dedicates his entire album 'Hopeless Romantic‘ to something as vulnerable as love. He sings about past love connections from the perspective of different mental and emotional states. By that, it's a story complemented with tales of deception, betrayal, and true love overcoming all. And thus, the circle closes when J!mmy chooses to let a woman create a visual and conceptual representation for his art. I respect that and hope for more collaborators to be so open-minded.
