“GARDENS - Turning Tables” by Luca Celine
“Turning Tables” deals with the feeling of melancholia, of not belonging, of self-optimization and expectations, all in the setting of being a female musician in her late 20s. The main character develops from a lethargic shell that needs to be told what she has to do in order to feel better, to breaking out of this shell, finding her own freedom and self-determination.
Through Voiceovers that break the fourth wall and speak to the audience directly, the director gives an inside view into the meaning behind the lyrics of the song, as well as the idea behind the video, since they are intertwined. Subtitles underline the pressure that the protagonist is faced with.
The video ends with the protagonist taking matters into her own hands and following the vision of a wide greenery that has been startling her throughout the video, pulling her out of the dullness she had been feeling in the beginning.
