“Party Dozen - Coup De Gronk” by VERSUS

Taking notes from classic Ozploitation cinema of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, Coup De Gronk builds on Party Dozen’s uniquely Australian aesthetic to match their original sonic offering. Kirsty’s saxophone acts as an instrument of savage coercion as Party Dozen roam the streets of Sydney in one epic shakedown.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

"This is our third film with our fave band and good mates, Party Dozen. It's been so much fun building out unique tone and aesthetic with them. Jono and Kirsty had the original idea of roaming the streets and shaking people down for PD cash. We love Ozploitation cinema and it was such a good opportunity to make something wild, funny and cool as shit to fit.

The starting point was the band printing half a million dollars of Party Dozen bucks. We worked closely with them on the scenes and situations, and then tried to elevate each with a mix of old and new camera techniques. Our DOP, Kieran Fowler leaned into a bunch of techniques from the era of Ozploitation classics. We then ran a 16mm filmout process (where you shoot digitally, print it to film and then scan it back to digital) to lo-fi it even further. Locations make a film and for this we literally door knocked places around Sydney we thought might contain great interiors. Highlights for us include Jono eating half a supermarket across the 2 day shoot and building the Pissy-Pants Rig (tm).”
