“Puente de Esperanza” By Marengo

“Puente de Esperanza” by Marengo is one of the gems compiled by DJ Trujillo in ‘Ritmo Fantasía’, a tribute to balearic hits from the ’80s and ’90s that explores forgotten corners of the Spanish music scene.

Juan R. “Marengo” Medina from Málaga wrote the song back in 1986 inspired by the love of his life – his wife Carmen. He also produced the accompanying video, shot on a beach in Marbella, which is featured in Binalogue’s 2021 production.

I grew up in Spain and as a child I often went to the traveling funfairs during local fiestas. Songs like ´La Lambada´ were the soundtrack of these ferias. In the midst of the brights lights and sweet smell of cotton candy I’d dream of warm places and fleeting love stories. Hearing Marengo’s ´Puente de Esperanza´ for the first time took me back to those verbenas. The track has a romantic sensual air that I wanted to capture on film. The original music video (from which clips are played on the TV screen in this video) tells a beautiful love story, that of Marengo and his wife. In my film, it is Marengo’s song that works as Cupid and awakens a strong desire in our protagonists, who will live an entire love story in one dance.
