Beyond the Short
We created this narrative for Skubas’s song that tells a story about the relationship of a father and son in a broken family. We were looking for an interesting reason as to why the mother left them and why they had to manage on their own. We wanted something that wasn’t in the song and would expand it’s story in an entirely new way with a socially important topic in its heart.
Although first drafts were created in December, when anti-LGBT sentiment was on the rise in Poland, the toughest things were said after we filmed. The music video premiered in the aftermath of a political campaign with a very harsh approach toward the LGBT community, making both our theme and topic bigger than we expected.
This project was made for the Papaya Young Directors contest. It's an international competition in Poland aimed at emerging directors and filmmakers based around developing films for PYD's partners and sponsors. Skubas was an artist represented by Kayax record label - one of the sponsors. We ultimately won 1st Prize in Music Stories Category for the best music video of the 7th edition.
