“Petit Louis” by Andre Bato

“Petit Louis” portrays the passionate, tumultuous and nonlinear love story between Chiara, a young runaway from America, and J, an inscrutable French artist. The entirety of their relationship, which spans across three seasons, unfolds inside the confines of a charmingly small European apartment.

The film exposes deeper issues of dependency, attachment, and instincts that are rooted in their previous and troubled experiences with love and family. The facade of their relationship crumbles, revealing the sensitive and complex nature of their relationships to each other and themselves.

“Petit Louis” offers a candid exploration of love, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own preconceived notions of "romance" and how emotions can sometimes act as a defense mechanism, ultimately trapping us in a self-made prison. Through the lens of Chiara and J's relationship, the film invites audiences to consider the consequences of their own actions when it comes to matters of the heart.
