“Stranger” by Isabella Vizetta

Over a voicemail, a man asks his estranged girlfriend questions about specific memories of her that he's begun to forget. Details like the amount of sugar she'd pour in her coffee, the TV show they'd watch together and the sound of her laughter. The fading memories are audiovisually represented in all their eeriness as things start to fall apart.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

“I have a very conflictive relationship with nostalgia; it constantly drowns away the present and keeps me floating in this safe, gentle vacuum where nothing is in flux, where I can eternally hold onto better times. memory becomes my anchor to reality, and i’m only able to make sense of today if i fixate unhealthily on yesterday. As I've navigated loss, I've come to the frightening discovery of memory’s fluidity, as the main character expresses over the voicemail. Those moments we hold so dearly as the sole remnants of what we loved are also subject to time’s erosion. All of this led me to moments of deep existential anguish that I wanted to express in a film. the horror of change for someone who struggles to move on. This is a film that invites us to evaluate our relationship with our past and our present and I hope that it can help make those who struggle with the same things feel less lonely.”
