“Jal Saheli” by Martin Miron

Beyond the Short Official Premiere

Our film starts with the fictional perspective/view from the water itself which is heading to the main part of Laxmi Kushwaha, a young leader in the Jal Saheli movement, a collective of women in Bundelkhand fighting for water conservation and access to clean water. Through her efforts, water sources have been restored, ensuring sustainability and raising awareness in the region. The film portrays Laxmi’s daily life, her deep connection to nature, and the strength of her community, showing how these women overcome droughts and hardships by taking control of their destiny. Laxmi’s story is a powerful testament to resilience and the impact of women-led change.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

“Working alongside Laxmi and witnessing her dedication to her community was truly inspiring. Her story, along with the collective action of the women in the Jal Saheli movement, became the heart of our narrative. Despite the harsh conditions, these women aren’t just enduring—they’re driving meaningful change, and we wanted to capture that empowerment. This project became more than just a film—it was a deep dive into the resilience and strength of women fighting for clean water in one of India’s most water-scarce regions.”
